On July 7th. 2011 , as a writer for the Huffington Post, Robin Koerner did something that hadn’t been done before and hasn’t been done since. He persuaded a large bloc of registered Democrats to switch their party affiliation to Republican – to vote for Ron Paul, a very soft spoken Congressman from Texas who was the only candidate who shared their values and desire for peace – despite being a member of the opposing party.
The article, called “If You Love Peace, Become a Blue Republican (Just for a Year)“, went viral and the Blue Republican became for the largest single identified coalition of supporters who came together for Ron Paul’s candidacy in 2011/12.
Think about how profound that is.
Robin Koerner, a liberty-minded writer, writing for what is without question a very left-leaning, liberal publication, writes an article that persuades a huge number of people with a political allegiance that in any other context would be completely in opposition to Ron Paul, to actually switch parties and vote for him.
I know this all sounds amazing and almost beyond belief, but that’s exactly what happened. In this can be found the keys that can help you and others build a following for liberty that is needed not only to restore freedom in American but also to bring sanity back to our government and the way we relate to it.
Most liberty activists are not all that good when it comes to selling liberty – and that is why the country is where it is, and you are reading this page.
Why Most People Are Terrible at Selling Liberty
Most liberty activists are terrible at winning support for liberty because they try to argue for liberty.
That sounds counter-intuitive, but most of us have encountered a sales person who’s made us feel he is somewhat too desperate for the sale? I have – and typically such people make it less – not more – likely that I will “buy”. In contrast, effective salespeople sell by not trying too hard to sell at all – and certainly not by trying to argue their target into buying. Rather, they engage, listen, converse and understand their customer enough to know how to help their customers feel that they want what the salespeople are trying to sell…
This is not what most people do in the liberty movement, however – and that’s completely understandable because there are such compelling arguments to be made for liberty – arguments that we are passionate about. Nevertheless, like the desperate salesman who pushes for a sale, we frequently cause the targets of our attempts at political persuasion to resist our position – rather than to be excited.
You argue about the virtues of liberty. You quote the founding fathers, cite historical facts, assemble information in a logically compelling manner but then sadly find your logically compelling presentation does little to persuade people to your point of view.
Be a Liberty Superstar by Becoming a Weapon of Mass Persuasion
You could win every liberty argument for the next 100 years and never win enough support to stem the tide of tyranny even a little bit. Alternatively, you can become a Weapon of Mass Persuasion for Liberty who builds an army of people who are just as excited about supporting liberty as you are. On top of that, once you learn how to become a “Weapon of Mass Persuasion for Liberty” you can teach others.
Winning Supporters, Not Arguments: How It Works
When you learn how to become a weapon of mass persuasion, you are no longer concerned with winning arguments; winning arguments no longer matters to you; you cease to be concerned with “being right” because being right doesn’t matter either. None of this matters – because none of this wins you a supporter – and that’s what you want if you are going to change the direction of our nation, which is we all of us in the liberty movement are ultimately working for.
Let me ask you a question. Do you think you’d be more effective when it comes to advocating the cause of liberty if, when engaging someone or some group, you could almost read their minds? Most of the time, what people say is not what they think or feel. There’s usually something underlying their words that is the real driver of their point of view. That something is, broadly, their “paradigm”.
The Power of Paradigms
When you know about the power and operation of the paradigms that govern not only how people understand the world but also how they perceive it, you’ll be well properly armed to engage and persuade. As you become a weapon of mass persuasion, you’ll gain the skills necessary to recognize the paradigm that drives the responses of those whose opinions you are seeking to change, and you’ll become fully prepared to engage them in meaningful dialogue that will actually change their mind. When you know what you’re looking for, you’ll realize that almost everyone you need to communicate with will tell you how they are most easily persuaded!
Liberty Needs You – Now
Robin has been delivering workshops and seminars on the various dimensions associated with the “Art of Political Persuasion” since 2011. He’s traveled internationally and domestically, helping liberty activists understand their own and others’ paradigms – and the tactics for effectively breaking through them down.
Liberty needs you now more than ever. Our job is simple – but not easy: it’s a numbers game. The probability that liberty will be restored in our lifetime is a function of the number of people whose eyes we can open and whom we can persuade of the principles of liberty. When there are more of us who extol the virtues of liberty to our friends, family and our representatives than there are those who want to sacrifice liberty in the name of their own fear-driven or power-driven agendas, we win…
Making logical arguments for liberty to broadly social democratic and neo-con audiences hasn’t worked. And doing so will never rally enough support for liberty to stem the rise of tyranny.
Simply, if you’re serious about moving the country toward liberty, you don’t need to spend another hour learning about the finer points of the philosophy: you need to learn the general principles and tactics of sales and marketing ideas.
In short, all proponents of liberty must become “Weapons of Mass Persuasion”.
Robin’s universe of knowledge about the way the human mind works in the universe of politics as it relates to liberty is astounding. That may sound like hype, but before you dismiss it, read the comment below by Ben Swann of Truth in Media.
Robin Koerner is one of the great minds of liberty today. He is not just a brilliant guy, but he is passionate about liberty and what it means for people to live in a society where they as individuals are recognized as important and valuable. And that’s one of the reasons that I’m so excited that he’s featured on our site at www.TruthInMedia.com.
Intellectually, he is way up there, so if you have questions, don’t be afraid to track him down and ask him – because I always do.

Every libertarian needs to hear this talk if our movement hopes to capture the hearts and minds of our fellow Americans. The survival of the liberty movement depends on it.

About Robin Koerner
Robin Koerner is a political and economic commentator for the Huffington Post, Truth In Media (Ben Swann), Independent Voter Network and other sites. He is best known for coining the term “Blue Republican” to refer to liberals and independents who joined the GOP to support Ron Paul’s bid for the presidency. His article launched a movement, which now focuses on winning supporters for liberty, rather than arguments, focusing on finding common ground with those of various political persuasions, and especially people on the left. In that spirit, Robin trains activists and candidates to become good salespersons for liberty.
